In 2010 Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport launched Cakewalk, the largest private vessel, by volume, ever built in the United States, eclipsing J.P. Morgan’s Corsair IV from the 1930’s. At 281 feet long and nearly 3,000 tons, Cakewalk, with its opulent appointments, is arguably not only the largest, but perhaps the most elegant private vessel ever built. She is, in the opinion of the many experts who’ve seen her, the first U.S. built yacht to meet, and in many cases, exceed the standards of the very best European builders.
Rick Delfosse was one of the project managers for the building of this extraordinary vessel. We are indeed fortunate that Rick has taken time out of his circumnavigation to give this intriguing presentation: A look into its design and development, construction, a history of its ownership and a look into its present state of affairs.
